Explanatory Films – How The Big Price Differences Arise
- Von: Mag. Dominik Mikulaschek
Once you have decided to have an explanatory film made, you are usually surprised at the huge differences in price. Some providers offer such a film for 799 euros, while other providers can demand prices of 15,000 euros. To understand these differences, you need to know that there are basically two different types of explanatory films.
Use of drag & drop software for explanatory films
There are a number of software programs that offer ready-made templates, animation effects and characters that can be used to create the films. A monthly fee usually has to be paid for these programs. However, they also make it much easier to create the movie. Agencies also use such programs for inexpensive films, as they considerably reduce the total time required to make the film on a small budget.
At the agency, a graphic designer ensures that a perfect explanatory film is created from the templates, in which storytelling, sound design and color theory are professionally integrated.
However, if you want to avoid the competition also having explanatory films with the same characters, the use of such software is not advisable.
Motion graphics with manual animation
The best explanatory films are drawn by hand and then animated using modern programs. It is noteworthy that each figure and graphic is drawn individually. A whole team usually works on such a film. For the first step of the film, a storyboarder will work with the company to work out the characters and the desired language. Once the client is satisfied with this step, the project is passed on to the illustrator. The illustrator’s task is to add color to the sketches created in the first step and to create color harmony and image composition.
If the customer is also satisfied with this step, the animator receives the project. In this complex project, all figures and graphics are now dynamically animated.
Soundtrack of the movie
After the animator has completed his work, the work is passed on to the composer and the sound designer. An individual background score is created for the film and the sound designer solves any technical problems. However, you can expect to pay between 2,500 and 15,000 euros for such a film.
Conclusion
If you want to have an explanatory film created, you should first clarify the budget issue. For a small start-up company, it can be difficult to find the budget for a manually animated film. For larger companies with a corresponding marketing budget, however, a hand-animated film proves to be the best solution, which can be individually tailored to your own company.
